Following the westward trajectory of growth and pedestrian traffic to the Hudson River, WXY worked with the Meatpacking District Management Association to develop a public realm plan to enhance and activate the District’s Western Gateway.

Focusing on 14th Street, Washington Street, Gansevoort Street, and 10th Avenue, WXY studied the existing conditions and needs of the area from a safety, mobility, and business perspective, building on MDMA’s 2020 pedestrian-oriented district pilot and other public realm projects recently completed in the eastern half of the district.

The final plan proposed a near-term and long-term strategy for creating strong pedestrian- focused connections with clear links to the Hudson River, including a new plaza at Gansevoort Street and 10th Avenue, a radically reimagined Washington Street and 14th Street, and a complete redesign of the intersection of 14th Street and 10th Avenue.
