In 2021, WXY worked with DVDL and JLP+D to develop a multi-faceted plan for the activation of Jacksonville’s riverfront. Working in close coordination with the Downtown Investment Authority, the City’s Parks Department, and with support from the Jessie Ball Dupont Fund, WXY developed a near-term and long-term toolkit of strategies to create a more connected and vibrant interface between the city and the St. John’s River.

The planning process engaged a diverse array of stakeholders and advisory groups throughout Jacksonville, including advocates for riverfront parks and ecological restoration, downtown cultural and civic organizations, and city officials working on a range of capital projects to enhance and develop the riverfront.

As part of the project, WXY developed a series of fast action strategies and modules to activate the riverfront in the near term and explored longer-term strategies for creating a more resilient river’s edge to protect the city against future flooding and storm surge.
