The design for REED Academy builds on the idea of the environment as a teacher and encourages productive relationships between built space and pedagogical technique. To meet the unique requirements of teaching people with Autism Spectrum Disorders, the proposed building itself acts as a learning tool through which students can acquire life skills and job training above and beyond academic learning.

With a more permanent set of elements including built-in features, glass distraction markers, wall graphics, LCD screens, and lighting effects, the design aimed to create an interactive and interchangeable environment, providing sensory experiences and provoking visual excitement. In order to create a relationship throughout the four story office, the installation explored themes that developed over the sequence of the floors.
