Gymnasium in Forest Hills Community House

The Center, originally built by NYCHA, had become rundown from overuse during the prior 30 years and was in dire need of new finishes and lighting. The goal of the project sought to provide well lit, open spaces using a combination of indirect and direct lighting and a bright, colorful palette that would be appreciated by young and old alike. The multipurpose room – which is used for ping pong, yoga, basketball, movies and is also used to serve lunch to 300 seniors on weekdays - was fitted with a new poured Sportsfloor and basketball backboards, acoustical blankets and metal halide lighting.

WXY designed a small interior renovation for four 200 sf classrooms and a 3,200sf multipurpose room at Queens Community House in Forest Hills, NY. The project was completed on a minimal budget that involved complex funding and approvals from two agencies and a not-for-profit organization.
