Transmitter Park and Pier
Brooklyn, NY — 2012

The new Pier was designed with a series of pods and linking bridges that create a branching structure when seen from above, and offer unique places to fish and interact along the waterfront. The pier rises gradually along its length, to raise above current flood elevation standards. A new curved bridge for cyclists and pedestrians, constructed over a restored historic slip, provides opportunities for wetland habitat restoration and allows for a terraced edge along the water.

This community-based Open Space Masterplan, by landscape architect Donna Walcavage and WXY, followed the rezoning of the Greenpoint-Williamsburg Waterfront. Transmitter Park offers an initial point of access to the waterfront, and continues a strong legacy of community engagement in the area. Transmitter Park and its public Pier were designed, funded and opened to the public in 2012.
