View of Red Hook
Based on interviews with manufacturers, brokers, and business owners, the plan blends economic insight with community vision, turning market knowledge into design strategies that bring underused industrial land back into circulation.
WXY led a multidisciplinary team to develop recommendations for the adaptive reuse and redevelopment of strategic sites in the Red Hook, as well as potential public incentives to facilitate the delivery of underutilized industrial sites back to the market. The outreach strategy relied on in-depth interviews with emerging and anchor industrial business owners, local real estate brokers, and other key stakeholders to understand local market challenges and opportunities.
The New York State Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Program was designed to help community-based organizations address issues of environmental contamination, establish neighborhood development goals, and build consensus around future land uses in key study areas. WXY was commissioned by the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC) to develop the Red Hook Step 2 BOA focused around the attraction of new job-intensive industries and the development of industrial and commercial properties.
