Brooklyn, NY — 2006

The project features an engineered, “living” dune landscape that provides the Aquarium with a dramatic and iconic perimeter and doubles as an interactive exhibit. Other iconic elements such as a coral inspired retaining wall and a sixty-foot high jellyfish pavilion will provide this wonderful institution with a presence that embraces the uniqueness of its site on the water and more importantly at Coney Island.

Both large and small-scaled design ideas were developed to create an engaging and porous perimeter in order to provide new opportunities for the Aquarium and casual visitors to the Coney Island boardwalk to interact. In the process, the Aquarium will attract an even wider audience as it seeks to enrich and broaden its reputation as a steward of the Oceans.
