Downtown Brooklyn Kiosks
Brooklyn, NY — 2018
Image

As part of WXY’s Brooklyn Strand Action Plan—a comprehensive urban design for downtown Brooklyn—WXY has undertaken several projects to fulfill the goals of the plan. This includes a custom design for two colorful food vendor kiosks for Willoughby Plaza and Albee Square.

These 80 SF temporary structures—designed to be self-sufficient—utilize a trapezoidal shape to provide both a striking form and practical functionality. The top of the kiosk houses mechanical equipment and a supply water tank (with a waste water tank between the floor framing) while a large, vertical bi-fold front door exaggerates the trapezoidal shape to provide a canopy for shade and rainfall.

Enlivening public spaces with bold colorful blocks and striped patterns draws attention to the kiosk while evoking the dynamism of Brooklyn.
