WXY is pleased to share that Architectural Record has published a feature on the newly completed Garden House at The Packer Collegiate Institute. Set within Brooklyn Heights, the project expands the campus in a way that feels both grounded and forward-looking, creating new space for learning that is shaped as much by atmosphere as by program.

The Garden House grows from an existing nineteenth-century brownstone and opens directly onto a revitalized garden, developed in collaboration with Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects and Planners. Across four levels, classrooms and shared spaces are organized to encourage connection, creativity, and focus. Abundant daylight and exposed mass timber establish a warm, healthy interior environment, while the relationship between building and landscape gives students daily access to nature as part of the school experience.

As the first major project realized from WXY’s 2022 Facilities Master Plan for Packer, the Garden House sets a clear direction for the campus’s future. The design balances respect for the school’s architectural legacy with a commitment to sustainability, adaptability, and student well-being, demonstrating how educational environments can evolve without losing their sense of place.
