Greater Greenways: A Design Framework for NYC's Next Chapter
Greater Greenways: A Design Framework for NYC's Next Chapter

New York City’s new Greater Greenways Plan marks the first comprehensive look at the city’s greenway system—over 500 miles of routes built over decades by multiple agencies and partners. While these greenways have created incredible opportunities for movement and recreation, they’ve often grown in disconnected segments.

In partnership with New York City Department of Transportation, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, New York City Economic Development Corporation, the NYC Office of the Mayor, the NYC Greenways Coalition, and WSP, we led the documentation of the existing network—creating a unified dataset of every segment. This work will guide how the City plans, builds, and maintains greenways in the years ahead, with maps now available on DOT’s website and annual updates to follow.

Prioritizing six “early action corridors,” The Greater Greenways Plan outlines safety improvements, extends access into communities that need it most, and brings the vision of a truly citywide network closer to reality.
